He did his Ph.D. in photoelectrochemistry at IIT, Mumbai using non-stoichiometric lead oxide thin film. Dr. Mukhopadhyay did post doctoral work in Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel), Shinshu University (Japan as JSPS fellow) and University of Karlsruhe (Germany, as CFN fellow under DFG). Throughout his research carrer, he performed studies in the field of Nano Technology and interfacial electron transfer involved in energy conversion and storage process. He has published more than 72 research articles in journal of International repute and has five patents. He served as reviewer of many Internationally reputed journals. Dr Mukhopadhyay has been awarded Vikram Sarabhai Award in 2006 and CSIR Rural Technology Award in 2008.

His interests are in energy harvesting and storage devices.
